The Nokia 3310 may not be the only iconic Nokia phone that will see a modern reincarnation. HMD Global is not ruling out the possibility of re-releasing other Nokia phones for the new generation.
James Rutherfoord, HMD Global’s VP of APAC, revealed in an exclusive interview that the 3310 is meant to “test the waters” to see what the reception would be like. So far, it has exceeded all expectations within the company. For a feature phone to hit GSMarena’s most popular smartphones list is no mean feat.
That brings us to the question: will HMD Global be introducing more iconic phones? After all, Nokia’s got a colourful and storied stable of devices – maybe a modern N-series device? Perhaps even a N-Gage gaming tablet?
For now, the answer is a no. The company is still looking at the feasibility of such a move; after all, Rutherfoord says, this happens all the time with sneakers. But of course, there are technological advancements that need to be considered, while still retaining the soul of the iconic product.
But don’t be surprised if there is indeed a special project in the works, especially given the reception for the 3310.
