It looks like Google has just given its iOS keyboard app, Gboard, a pretty big update. It now supports 15 new languages including Malay, has a wider range of emoji that is in-line with what iOS 10 offers, Google Doodles, and the most interesting of all – voice typing.
New Languages And Emoji
First up, Gboard now supports 15 additional languages including Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Greek, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Catalan, Hungarian, Malay, Russian, Latin American Spanish and Turkish. To add a new language, simply open the Gboard app and go to “Languages”, followed by “Add Language”. As for new emoji, Gboard now supports all of the latest emoji that is offered by iOS 10.
Google Doodles
Next up, the new Gboard also supports Google Doodles now. When there is a new Doodle, the “G” button on Board will animate. Just tap on it, and it will tell you everything there is to learn about the day’s doodle. You can also search more information about it right from Gboard. Google Doodle is a fun and educational tool from the company that celebrates holidays, anniversaries and notable people; there might be even a game or two on special occasions.
Voice Typing
Finally, the most interesting part of today’s update would definitely have to be a new voice typing feature. Just long press the mic button located on the space bar, talk to your phone, and Gboard will automatically transcribe it for you. This is very handy, especially when you are busy with something else like cooking, holding on to your baby so she doesn’t fall, or when you’re sick and tired of typing on the small little keyboard. Sadly though, while Gboard now supports Malay, it does not support the usual slangs we use like “lah” and “mah”.
Google first introduced Gboard in May last year. It’s more than a regular iOS keyboard app. With a built-in search function, you can easily search and share with your friend without leaving your current app; it’s like bringing Google Search with you to all your favourite apps. On top of that, you can also use the search function to easily find emoji and GIFs.
Gboard is available in the App Store for free, so check it out now, or update your Gboard app now to get the latest features.
