Google is currently rolling out an update for Google Maps on Android that makes it easier for users to discover nearby restaurants, and get real-time information on the current traffic condition, and commute info, all with just one tap.
Once you get the update, you will see a new section on the bottom of the main interface on Google Maps. Swipe up to access the three tabs located on the top of the new interface. The first tab is the places tab, which shows you a curated list of places to eat and drink like “best dinners”, “cheap eats” or “business dining”. Google will show you restaurant information based on your current location and of course, you can search for restaurant in any other location of your choice. You can also search for everyday spots like ATMs, pharmacies, gas stations and grocery stores.
Google also wants to make it easier for you to get to home and work. With these addresses saved, Google will automatically show you real-time ETA to these destinations, as well as traffic conditions and expected delays on the driving tab. If you do not need Google Maps to navigate you around, you can tap on “Start driving” to get real-time traffic info without turn-by-turn directions.
As for the transit tab, Google will recommend you on which bus or train to take to home or work. It will show you when the next bus or train is coming, and give you an ETA for when you will arrive. If you are headed elsewhere, just swipe down to find nearby transit stations, along with real-time schedules so you can plan ahead.
