It looks like Facebook will be extending the Stories feature on Instagram to its main Facebook app too. According to reports, the feature, called Facebook Stories, is already available for users in Ireland.
Available on Facebook for iOS and Android, Facebook Stories comes with a new in-app camera. The camera, like Stories on Instagram and of course, Snapchat, lets you put fun filters over your face, or add visual geolocations tags on photos and videos. Just like Unlike the regular photos and videos you share on Facebook, Facebook Stories will appear in a different section, and will disappear after 24 hours.
Facebook Stories is almost identical to Instagram Stories. Stories will not appear on News Feed or your profile’s timeline. Instead, it sits on a dedicated bar on top of the app just like Instagram Stories. To view a story, simply tap on your friend’s circle and let the videos and photos load.
Facebook Stories is currently only available to users in Ireland. Facebook says that they will be extending the feature to more countries “in the coming months”, so if you’re excited about sharing disappearing stories so you don’t end up spamming your social media account, I guess you’ll have to stick to Instagram and Snapchat for now. Facebook already has 150 million people using Instagram Stories daily, almost the same as Snapchat’s total user base, no wonder the social networking company wants to extend it to more people.
“The way people share today is different to five or even two years ago – it’s much more visual, with more photos and videos than before. We want to make it fast and fun for people to share creative and expressive photos and videos with whoever they want, whenever they want.” – Facebook said in a statement to Business Insider.
