The Pokemon Company clearly knows that it has struck gold with getting the franchise on mobile devices. Which is probably why it has introduce another game for Android and iOS. Called Pokemon Duel, the game looks to be a revival of the long dead miniatures game; with some new twists.
Pokemon Duel is an extremely simplified strategy game. Each player chooses a team of six Pokemon, and attempts to capture the enemy goal. In doing this, Pokemon can be used to block and battle each other; making it a sort of chess-like match.
Of course, the system is not all that elegant. Pokemon Duel retains the spinning disc mechanic from the miniatures game. Essentially, players will spin a disc to determine what attack the Pokemon makes; removing quite a bit of strategy from the game. Then again this mechanic was originally aimed at children below the age of 12.
As is the case, players will have to buy random packs to obtain new Pokemon. These can be bought with in-game currency or real money; but we all know how that eventually turns out.
Pokemon Duel is now available for download. But honestly, we’re just waiting for the Pokemon Company to break down and give us a proper port of the real Pokemon games.
