Codemasters and Humble Bundle seem to be doing their honest best to give away the entire DiRT racing series. This time around, DiRT Showdown is available for free on the Humble Store; which is surprising since DiRT 3 was given away in the same manner barely two months ago.
DiRT Showdown is the followup to DiRT 3, and retains much of the same single player gameplay. New multiplayer modes are introduced here, with party game modes for up to eight online players at the same time. Split screen multiplayer is also available for those who prefer playing with people in the same room.
Initial reception to DiRT Showdown wasn’t quite as good as the rest of the Colin McRae rally series (the name was dropped from the title with DiRT 3). Critics complained about the lack of depth, although they admitted that it still has some substance for fans of rally racing games.
Still, it’s completely free this time around; which means that there really is nothing to complain about. The offer ends in about 38 hours at the time of this writing.
