If you have always been jealous of our Southern neighbors for their fast Internet speed, this news might add more fuel to your fire. One of its major telco, Singtel has announced that its 450Mbps LTE-Advanced network is now operational.
Available to all Singtel 4G customers at no additional costs from today onwards, the telco stated that Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge owners should be able to enjoy the additional data speed immediately. Subsequently, LG V20 owners will be able to do so soon with the help of an upcoming software update.
Singtel has also pointed out that more compatible smartphones will be available very soon as well. The telco is not stopping there though as it is also in the process of deploying 1Gbps mobile network at selected high-traffic areas next year.
Before you start flipping table at your existing telcos, consider this: our Singaporean neighbors have to pay more for their mobile data. For example, Singtel’s base postpaid plan that comes with 3GB of data is priced at SGD 20 (about RM 63) per month which is up to 3 times the price of comparable postpaid plans in Malaysia.
That being said, it doesn’t mean that telcos in Malaysia are sitting on their laurels though given how we kept on hearing about network upgrade from time to time. Maybe it takes a little bit more time for new technologies to be deployed in our country given the infrastructure challenges, geographical condition, and industry landscape, as well as few other factors that are beyond our knowledge.
