After being involved in substantial amount of rumors and teasers, a new BlackBerry device has been revealed at CES 2017 as promised by TCL who was given the rights to manufacture BlackBerry devices recently. Codenamed “Mercury”, the company decided to keep other details regarding the new smartphone under wraps for now despite showcasing the prototype at CES.
Such information includes its technical specifications, price, and release date. Even the device’s official name is still a secret at the moment which is indeed rather perplexing.
Nevertheless, media members who managed to have a feel at the prototype at CES 2017 has stated that Mercury runs on Android Nougat with extra security features that similar in nature as per DTEK50 and DTEK60. At the same time, the QWERTY keyboard on Mercury has the same functions as per Priv in addition to a fingerprint sensor that is integrated into the phone’s space bar.
It is indeed good to see that Mercury is built as a BlackBerry smartphones instead of being repurposed into existing TCL phone as per the case with DTEK50 and DTEK60. Meanwhile, TCL will apparently reveal more information regarding BlackBerry Mercury at Mobile World Congress 2017 in February.
