Malaysia’s largest Dota 2 tournament, ESL One Genting 2017 is right around the corner and honestly, we’re very excited to see the return of top-class Dota 2 back in Malaysia. Happening from the 6th to 8th of January, the ESL One Genting 2017 tournament will be held at Genting’s very own Arena of Stars. To make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into, here are some of the things you can expect to see up at Genting!
Fnatic’s New Lineup
Fnatic had an amazing run at The Internationals 2016, securing themselves a fourth place finish with their Malaysian and Filipino lineup. However, the team didn’t perform very well at the Boston Major qualifiers and three of its Filipino players, Demon, Raven, and eyyou decided to leave Fnatic.
It’s only a few days away and Fnatic has finally announced its new team roster. Being one of the team that got a direct invite to ESL One Genting, a lot of pressure is being put on Fnatic as this will be the team’s first appearance together, and their debut opponent will be Virtus.Pro.
Production Value
ESL has been and still is one of the largest eSports organisations, covering not only Dota 2, but other popular game titles as well. With the company’s experience and expertise in tournament organisation, expect a great all-around show with activities for your weekend at ESL One Genting.
ESL One Goodie Bags
For those of you who have purchased an ESL One ‘Plus’ ticket, you’ll be getting an ESL One goodie bag packed with unique ESL One-branded merchandise. The goodie bag itself is a ESL One gym bag, and in it you will find an ESL One Genting event t-shirt, power bank, event pin, ESL One mousepad, a keyholder, and more.
On the other hand, Dota 2 fans who bought the ESL One ‘VIP’ tickets will get additional perks such as having access to the fast lane at signing sessions, as well as free drinks and restaurant vouchers. That’s three RM100 vouchers per day to redeem for a meal at any restaurant in the arena.
Cosplay
What is a Dota 2 tournament without cosplayers? ESL is giving out free tickets to cosplayers to join the crowd in Genting, so be ready to meet some of your favourite Dota 2 characters in real life. As with past events, we’re sure the Dota 2 Malaysia Circle (D2MC) will be making an appearance as well.
Secret Shop
It’s pretty hard to get your hands on official Dota 2 merchandise, especially when all the big tournaments are held outside of Malaysia. However, local fans are in for a treat as ESL has managed to bring the famous Secret Shop to Genting. So, for those of you who wish to purchase Dota 2 The International merchandise, get your wallets ready.
International casters
Watching a Dota 2 tournament wouldn’t be complete without the casters, analysts, and commentators who add another layer to the excitement of watching the matches live. ESL One secured some of the best talents in Dota 2 for Genting, including host Eri Neeman, reporter SirActionSlacks, analyst Merlini, and commentator Tobiwan just to name a few.
These guys are quite the fun bunch and it is always entertaining to watch them do what they do. Fans can also expect Kevin “Purge” Godec to be detailing matches on a huge touchscreen.
Signing Sessions
With all the professional Dota 2 teams from all around the world gathered in one venue, what do they do when they’re not in an intense Dota 2 match? Be at signing sessions, of course. Fans will get to meet their favourite teams and players, get their autographs, shake their hands (gasp!) and who knows, they might get a chance to have a little chat with their favourite players too.
Witness WarriorsGaming.Unity’s Journey
After the team’s spectacular performance at the Boston Major, WG.Unity went back to work with the ESL One Malaysian qualifiers. The team defeated Geek Fam in the finals and because of that, Digi is now sponsoring WG.Unity for the entire of ESL One Genting 2017.
Being the Malaysian favourites, Team WG.Unity has definitely come out strong and we’re sure fans are excited to see how they’ll fare going up against some of the world’s best Dota 2 teams.
Amazing Dota
Eight of the best Dota 2 teams from around the world – Fnatic, Digital Chaos, Wings Gaming, Team NP, Virtus.Pro, Execration, Newbee, as well as WG.Unity – have all gathered here at ESL One Genting. With the recent introduction of the New Journey update (and 7.01 patch), it would be interesting to see what new strategies or metas the teams will show in-game.
These teams will be fighting for their share of the grand prize pool of $250,000 (approximately RM1.1 million), so come 6th of January 2017, Genting Resorts and ESL will play host to Malaysia’s largest Dota 2 tournament. Question is, will you be a part of it?
