Lenovo today has officially launches a new sub-brand that is focused on gaming market called Lenovo Legion. With that, the company has become the latest OEM to establish a gaming-oriented division which followed the path of several other companies before it such as Acer with Predator series, ASUS Republic of Gamers, Dell’s Alienware, and HP Omen.
To mark the establishment of Legion, Lenovo has unveiled two new laptops called Legion Y720 and Y520. Since these are CES 2017 products, it is not surprising that these laptops are equipped with several new hardware that were expected to be announced at the event.
Two of them are listed for the Legion Y720 in the form of the new Intel Core i7-7700HQ and Core i5-7300HQ that came from Intel Kaby Lake family of processors. Aside from that, the laptop is also equipped with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5 graphics card and can be obtained with 15.6-inch 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS Anti-Glare display.
In terms of memory, it can be fitted with up to 16GB GGDR4 RAM while the laptop is also able to support up to 512GB PCIe solid state drive or 2TB SATA hard drive. Said to be the first Windows-based PC with Dolby Atmos in the world, the 3.2kg gaming laptop also carries a 4-cell 60Whr battery that able to provide it with up to 5-hours of battery life.
Meanwhile, the Legion Y520 is said to feature up to Intel’s Core i7 processor from Kaby Lake family as well but no specific model was mentioned in its specs sheet. That being said, we are surprised to see that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti – which has yet to be released for laptops, as far as we know at the moment – has been listed as the laptop’s GPU.
At the same time, Legion Y520 is also equipped with 15.6-inch full HD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare display, and up to 16GB DDR4 memory. Just like Y720, users can choose to have either up to 512GB of PCe solid state drive or 2TB SATA hard drive for Y520. Last but not least, it also comes with a 3-cell 45Whr battery that provides up to 4 hours of battery life.
According to Lenovo, the Legion Y520 will be the first to be released into the market with a starting price of USD 899.99 (about RM 4,044) this February before followed by Legion Y720 in April 2017 for USD 1,399.99 (about RM 6,290) onwards.
