Intel has unveiled its new Broadwell-EP CPU lineup which features the latest 14nm Xeon E5-2600 V4 family of processors with specifications that will make hardware enthusiasts drool. If it wasn’t obvious before, it’s worth noting that Xeon processors are primarily aimed for workstation platforms.
Interestingly, most Xeon E5-2600 V4 CPUs comes with a maximum of 22 CPU Cores, which is significantly higher compared to the “consumer-friendly” Intel Core i7-6700K processor. In addition to that, Intel’s latest processors are packed with 7.2 billion transistors as well.
Amazingly, Xeon E5-2600 V4 family of processors are capable of supporting up to 385GB of DDR4 RAM (12x32GB DIMMs). The “enthusiast-class” processor inside Intel’s Broadwell-EP family would be the E5-2699 V4. It comes with a base clock of 2.2GHz along with 55MB of L3 cache. What makes this particular Xeon CPU interesting is the fact that it boasts a whopping 44 threads per socket.
When it comes to price, Intel’s Xeon E5-2600 V4 processors starts from US$213 (about RM831) up to an eye watering US$4155 (approximately RM16,210). Knowing this, there is no doubt that Intel’s latest CPU lineup are meant solely for HPC (High Performance Computing) usage. Unfortunately, Intel has not mentioned the date of availability for its latest processors yet.
