Whenever a new device is available, there are bound to be scratch, drop, or even “bend” tests done on said device. While the Xiaomi Mi 5 – and its other variants – isn’t widely available yet, Xiaomi has released its own torture test of the Mi 5 Pro, and it fared pretty well; it even survived being sawed and drilled.
In the torture test video, the Mi 5 Pro – which comes with a ceramic back – was first keyed, which is a relatively normal test. After all, many of us keep our keys in the same pocket as our smartphones, although this isn’t necessarily a good practice. After said test, the video progressed to more extreme cases, such as trying to saw the Mi 5 Pro and even attempting to drill a hole through it.
Although the Mi 5 Pro appears to be unscathed by all of the torture tests, it’s very possible that the tester was simply holding back; we’re sure the device could be seriously damaged if that was the aim. That is not to say the video isn’t impressive at all: the saw test looked particularly convincing.
it’s worth noting that the torture test that was done by Xiaomi itself, so it’s no surprise that the end result is in favour of the company. Regardless, when the Mi 5 Pro is widely available, other parties will release their own torture tests; we will see then if the flagship device really is as durable as Xiaomi touts it to be.
