Aside from announcing a number of new features for Xbox One under the Windows 10 Anniversary Update that will be released later this year, Microsoft has also revealed that all Xbox One will receive another interesting new feature through the same update called Dev Mode. What it essentially does is that it allows users to turn their console into a Universal Windows Platform dev kit.
This can be done through the Dev Mode Activation app which will let users register their Xbox One to their Dev Center account. After the registration is completed, it will then download and install necessary updates into the console in order to allow it to become a dev kit.
Once that is done, only then users will be able to restart their console into the Dev Mode using the same app and start testing their UWP app on Xbox One. To turn back the console into a normal Xbox One, the option is available is available on the console’s Dev Home tool.
Do note that, users need to register as a developer in order to be able to utilize Dev Mode. Additionally, users will not able to play games or run apps on their Xbox One under the mode. Preview of the Dev Mode is available from today through Dev Mode Activation app while the finalized version will be included with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update later this year.
