Celcom is now offering direct billing on the Google Play Store. Dubbed as CelcomPay, this service essentially allows Celcom users to purchase apps or in-game items from the Play Store without a credit or debit card. Needless to say, this is a very convenient service.
We tested the availability of this service on our Celcom postpaid number, and sure enough, it works. In order to start using CelcomPay, all you have to do is go to “My Account” on the Google Play Store, select the “add payment method” option, and verify your Celcom account. At the time of this writing, it’s uncertain if this service is available to Xpax users as well.
This isn’t the first time a telco company is offering direct billing on the Google Play Store. Back in September 2015, Digi was already offering it, while Maxis started doing so earlier this year in January. Regardless, it’s great to see more telco companies offering such a service.
This can be seen as a great move to support local developers on the Android platform. After all, more payment choices are always good; not everyone is comfortable with using their credit card to perform online transactions.
Thanks for the tip, Terrence!
