Google has finally updated its Google Maps app for iOS to bring Uber integration so you can easily find the most convenient way to travel to your destination. This feature has been available on Android device for over a week now.
This is not completely new though, about two years back, Google already integrated Uber service into its Maps app for both Android and iOS. However instead of tucking the option away under the public transit tab, there’s now a new ride service tab just for Uber, as well as other taxi related services for other countries.
The tab shows information like how far the nearest Uber is from your location, and fare estimate to your destination. Google Maps allows you to pick between the various rides offered by Uber – UberX, UberXL and Uber Black, and tapping into either one will open the Uber app with your pick up point and destination already filled in so all you need to do is request for a ride. Of course, you must have Uber installed and logged in.
For other countries, Google also partnered with other taxi companies – 99Taxis in Brazil, Ola Cabs in India, Hailo in the UK and Spain, mytaxi in Germany and Spain, and Gett in the UK.
