Microsoft Office Is Free For Apple’s New 9.7-Inch iPad Pro; Not For Larger iPad Pro

Apple users on the new 9.7-inch iPad Pro may not have to pay to use Microsoft iOS office apps, unlike those currently on the larger 12.9-inch model. This is due to Microsoft’s Mobile Office strategy, which was implemented about a year ago. The strategy consists of differentiating between mobile and desktop users by screen size.

Microsoft allows devices with screens smaller than 10.1-inches to use its Microsoft Office apps without an Office 365 subscription. In contrast, larger devices are required to have a subscription before being able to use Microsoft Office apps without limitations. Hence, why the 9.7-inch iPad Pro can use it for free.

Apple’s statement regarding its 9.7-inch iPad Pro as being the perfect PC replacement isn’t that far fetched. Bear in mind that even the smallest Surface Tablet – the Surface 3 – has a screen size of roughly 10.8-inch. This means that Surface tablet owners are paying to use Microsoft Office apps.

This information may not entirely sway users to give up their laptops for a tablet, but it does provide a small incentive for those already looking into buying a new iPad. Although it should be pointed out that anyone can use Microsoft’s productivity tools for free through Office.com.
