The first episode of Telltale’s Batman series is set to debut this summer, although the developer admits that the script is still being written and has nothing to show just yet. However, several tidbits of information has been revealed; including the supporting cast that will be appearing in game.
Those familiar with Telltale’s approach to games know what to expect. It will be substantially different from the Arkham series, which favoured beating up thugs over problem solving. Instead, the Telltale style will emphasise story over action; and outcomes will change according to player choices.
Players will also be given the option to solve problems as either Bruce Wayne or Batman, depending on how they want to approach the story. How players act as Wayne will also affect the type of enemies that Batman faces at night. Despite this, Telltale says that there will not be an option to complete the entire game as Batman’s alter ego.
This version of Batman will exist in his own universe, separate from all the other Batman stories. The first episode will not feature any of the Bat-family like Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, or Batgirl; although Alfred has been confirmed as appearing. Other supporting characters include James Gordon, Vicki Vale, and Renee Montoya.
The art-style is said to be inspired by Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, and Neal Adams; which indicates a more realistic look. Whether the comic book look can be pulled off in a videogame awaits to be seen, although Telltale did a good job with translating Fables into the Wolf Among Us.
