Lego has officially launched the new Nexo Knights series in Malaysia with a roadshow held in Midvalley Megamall. The series, which features futuristic styled knights, showcases Lego’s expansion beyond simply offering physical toys and includes integration across the Lego Nexo Knights: Merlok 2.0 mobile game, a tv series, and even the Legoland theme parks.
Nexo Knights is tied together through the Merlok 2.0 game, which at its core is an action adventure game. It almost resembles a mobile version of Diablo with the horror themes switched out for the colourful Lego aesthetic. Along the way, players will be able to use special abilities to defeat enemies.
Unlike most other mobile games, Merlok 2.0 doesn’t feature in-app purchases or ads. Instead, players must locate and scan Nexo Knight shields in the real world to collect new powers. There are over 170 different powers to be collected, and Lego has littered them across its various properties.
The most common powers will be available through simply buying the Nexo Knights sets and scanning the accompanying cards. In addition to this, the shields will also be appearing on the Nexo Knights micro-site at Lego.com; at intervals during the cartoon show; and at select locations in Legoland. To make things harder, some shields will only be available during special events.
Of course, Lego isn’t entirely an evil empire and allows players to share their shields with others. Meaning that players will be able to pool resources in order to effectively “catch ’em all”.
The Lego Nexo Knights roadshow is happening from today until 20 March, and is the first official launch event of its kind in Southeast Asia. Visitors will be able to experience the Nexo Knights world of Knighton in virtual reality, as Merlok himself guides them through the training required to be a knight. Adults should note that the VR station are designed for kids and attempting to experience it may require a lot of kneeling down.
Lego Nexo Knights: Merlok 2.0 is available for Android and iOS.
