Made for users that want to capture their adventure with ease, Casio Malaysia today has officially launch its rugged EXILIM EX-FR100 outdoor camera in our market. In a world that has been conquered by action cameras, the EX-FR100 is certainly quite different from the rest.
Built upon the foundation left by its predecessor EX-FR10, the main thing that would certainly catch one’s attention is the ability to detach its camera module from the main body. As Casio has packed almost all EX-FR100 functionalities into the camera module including its microSD card slot, the main body actually functions more as a controller for the module.
Connected to each other via Bluetooth, this enable users to position the camera anywhere they like and then wirelessly snap photos or record videos with the help of the 3-inch LCD touch screen on the EX-FR100 main body. According to our brief experience at the camera’s launch event earlier today, the wireless live view between the two parts of the camera seems works seamlessly without apparent lag.
Users are also able to operate snap photos or record videos directly from EX-FR100’s camera module as well through its dedicated capture and recording buttons. Not enough with that, users can choose to control the camera and transfer photos directly to their smartphone using EXILIM Connect app for Android and iOS.
Other than that, the EX-FR100 is designed to withstand shocks from a drop of up to 1.3 meters high and can be used underwater at a depth of up to 1.5 meter for 60 minutes. Casio stated the camera module and main body of EX-FR100 are actually able survive drops at a higher point – 1.7 meters, to be specific – when they are separated.
Comes with a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor that has an effective pixels of 10.2-megapixels, the EX-FR100 is also equipped with a f/2.8 16mm super wide-angle lens together with EXILIM Engine HS Ver 3 as its image processor. With the capability to shoot video at full HD, Casio has also implemented 3-axis image stabilization specifically for video recording.
The camera also features an all new functionality called Intelligent Interval that automatically selects photos with the least amount of blur and tilt when the interval shooting mode is on. It also supports high-speed video recording at 240fps as well as 30fps burst mode for photo snapping.
Meanwhile, do note that the camera module and main body are running on their own non-removable integrated batteries. Not only that, they also need to be charged separately. In term of battery life, the EX-FR100 able to capture up to 285 photos and 1 hour 20 minutes of full HD video.
