As more and more mobile processors are introduced to the market, AnTuTu would release the top 10 mobile chipsets from time to time. Just recently, it has released the latest ranking, and the results are quite surprising: the Snapdragon 820 is the best chipset as of March 2016, besting even the Apple A9.
Previously, the Apple A9 processor topped the chart, with the Kirin 950 quite far behind. With the introduction of the Samsung Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 to the ranking, things got even more interesting. Unlike last year, Samsung’s latest Exynos processor isn’t as powerful as the Snapdragon 820. This kind of result is just what Qualcomm needs after the Snapdragon 810 controversy last year.
What is even more surprising is how well Qualcomm’s mid-range processors – the Snapdragon 652 and 650 – fared in the benchmark. Not only are they more powerful than the Snapdragon 808, it is also very close in terms of performance to Qualcomm’s 2015 flagship processor, the Snapdragon 810.
AnTuTu also released the top 10 GPUs as of March 2016, and not surprisingly, the Snapdragon 820 tops the ranking as well, and by a much bigger margin. Here, we can see that the GPU of the Snapdragon 652 isn’t quite on par with the Snapdragon 810, although it’s quite close with the Snapdragon 808’s GPU.
While these are merely synthetic benchmark results of mobile processors in the market now, it’s a good gauge of how one chipset compare to others. Regardless, Qualcomm definitely has interesting processors this year.
