Google’s very own Cardboard VR was never available for sale, but now, the tech giant has started selling the VR headset in the Google Store. Retailing at US$15, which is about RM60, the Cardboard VR isn’t exactly affordable; this is despite its low-cost construction.
That being said, the Cardboard VR is actually more affordable if you purchase two of them, which retails at US$25 (approximately RM105). Still a hefty price tag, sure, but at least it is available for purchase now. It’s worth noting that the Cardboard VR on sale is the revised model unveiled back in May last year.
Of course, there are also other similarly affordable alternatives to Google’s Cardboard VR. These include the US$14.99 (about RM60) Goggle Tech C1-Glass – a foldable plastic VR viewer – and Mattel’s US$29.99 (approximately RM125) View-Master. All of these VR headsets can be found in the Google Store’s new Virtual Reality section, which is unfortunately not available to us here in Malaysia.
While the Google Cardboard VR is not officially available for purchase locally, there’s a very good chance it will make it here one way or another; it is already on sale locally if you know where to look. Who knows: Google might just officially bring it into Malaysia sometime in the future judging by the growth of VR in recent times.
