While McDonald’s menu might be different from one country to another, most of them do offer at least one thing in common: Happy Meal. Hence, it is not surprising Happy Meal’s red box itself has become a recognizable icon throughout the world but recently, McDonald’s Sweden has managed to put an interesting twist into the box.
It comes in the form of Happy Goggles, which was created to mark the 30th anniversary of Happy Meal in the country. What made it rather different from a standard Happy Meal box is that it can be turned into a virtual reality headset that is similar in concept to Google Cardboard.
All one need to do to turn this limited edition Happy Meal box into a Happy Goggles VR viewer is just tear along the stated area of the box, fold it, slot in the lens kit that is included together with the packaging, and then insert his or her smartphone into the finished viewer. McDonald’s Sweden has even come out with a ski game for smartphones called “se upp I backen” (which apparently means watch out on the slopes) for customers to enjoy with Happy Goggles.
While it is an initiative started by McDonald’s Sweden, Happy Goggles might make its way to other countries if it becomes popular enough. We certainly love to get our hands on one if it is released into our market…well, time to bug McDonald’s Malaysia then.
