Without a doubt the Xiaomi Mi 5 is a highly anticipated smartphone, and in China, it has received more than 14.4 million registrations to purchase the device. It seems like it will take some time for the Mi 5 to be available outside of China with such a huge demand.
Considering how well-equipped the Mi 5 is for its asking price (it starts from 1,999 Chinese yuan, which is about RM1,285), such a huge number of registrations isn’t all that surprising. Take the Mi 5’s Snapdragon 820 processor, for instance; many other flagships with a similar chipset have much higher price tags.
Other specifications of the Mi 5 include a 5.15-inch 1080p IPS display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, up to 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage, a 16MP rear camera with four-axis optical image stabilisation, a 4MP front-facing shooter, a 3,000mAh battery, USB Type-C, and of course, LTE connectivity.
The Xiaomi Mi 5’s first sale will be happening tomorrow in China. Only the 32GB and 64GB White models – both variants are packed with 3GB of RAM – will be available for sale tomorrow. It remains to be seen just when the Pro variant – with 128GB of internal storage, 4GB of RAM and a ceramic back – will be going on sale.
