This is quite a surprise: Huawei and Leica have announced that they are now in a partnership to “reinvent smartphone photography.” Could this collaboration change mobile photography as we know it?
Leica is no stranger in the camera scene; the legendary German camera manufacturer is well-known for producing high quality cameras that photography enthusiasts love – with a price to match as well. As for Huawei, it has rapidly grown over the years, and it mentioned that it is the “first Chinese company to sell more than 100 million smartphones” in 2015. Needless to say, a partnership between these two big companies is quite intriguing.
The mobile photography space has always been dominated by several smartphones, and one of the most prominent ones is the iPhone. Huawei, on the other hand, hadn’t had much success in establishing its smartphones as capable mobile shooters. Of course, this is in relation to the best smartphone cameras in the market, and it’s worth noting that the Nexus 6P has a very capable camera.
Beyond the announcement of this partnership, Huawei and Leica did not detail anything further. Regardless, this could very well be the start of a new era for mobile photography, that is, if both companies can come up with an impressive product.
