At the global Mi 5 unveiling, Xiaomi also took the opportunity to introduce a new app that will be pre-installed on the Mi 5. The Mi VTalk is a cross-platform video calling app with plenty of additional features.
The Mi VTalk app lets users create video calls with a host of chat tools. Group video calls with up to four users is supported, and Beautify mode is enabled by default, making you look your best whatever the situation.
Besides that, video calls can be minimised to a smaller window, allowing you to use the phone for other things. In the video call, you can even send photos, texts, and animations popular among Chinese instant messaging apps.
Xiaomi also claims that the app uses up to 40% less data in video calls compared to current video calling apps. Finally, there’s a Remote Assistance feature that lets you contact friends to help solve any issues with your phone remotely control the device of the person you’re video calling (provided it runs on MIUI). It’s designed to help those not familiar with smartphones, such as older people or first-time smartphone users.
With the 4MP UltraPixel front camera, the VTalk app supports Beautify for enhanced skin tones
The Mi VTalk app is now available on both iOS and Android. The Mi 5 will be the first Xiaomi device that will feature this app pre-installed.
