Together with the Galaxy S7, Samsung announced a few interesting accessories tailored for the company’s latest flagship. Those that caught our eye were the new Lens Covers, a chunky battery case, and even a new set of mysterious wearables.
Samsung’s Lens Cover cases are designed to further enhance the S7’s camera for more creative use. There are two Lens Covers, a Wide Angle Lens Cover and a Telephoto Lens Cover.
Both Lens Covers are pretty self explanatory, and Samsung has designed them to be interchangeable: one snap-on plastic cover accommodates both lenses, which can be screwed on or off the cover.
For those worried about the battery life on the Galaxy S7, there’s the aptly-named Backpack battery case. Housing a 2,700mAh pack, it almost doubles the 3,000mAh internal battery, letting you get on with your life without worrying about battery life.
The only downside is your phone now resembles a brick that’s over double the thickness of a Galaxy S7.
Being a gaming-focused product, Samsung also approached PC gaming peripheral maker Mad Catz to design some new console-style accessories for the Galaxy S7.
Finally, there’s the wearables that even Samsung did not bother to mention at the announcement. Known as the Charm collection of wearables, these products offers a basic smartwatch experience with a stylish touch.
The two wearables on display both sync with a smartphone via Bluetooth, and are strapped to your wrists. Incoming notifications cause the wearables to vibrate, but there are no displays to actually tell you what they are.
The larger Charm supposedly houses LEDs, which are likely to be configurable to light up in different colours for different notifications, but due to some technical issues at the product zone, the devices couldn’t be turned on (with no visible buttons on either Charms, we weren’t sure how they are switched on either).
They technically don’t have any official names either; the Charm name is derived from the Samsung Charm app that controls them. Unfortunately, we also were not able to see the app in action.
Of course, there are the usual suite of snap on covers, flip covers, fast charge power banks, and limited edition collaborations with famous artists and companies on display. The infamous Keyboard Cover makes an appearance for the Galaxy S7, too.
These accessories will likely be made available alongside the Galaxy S7 when the flagship smartphone is launched in Malaysia next month.
