Digi has announced that it has completed and launched four new 4G LTE towers in the northern region of Malaysia. These areas include Lunas in Kedah, Batu Gajah in Perak, along with Jejawi and Arau in Perlis.
As part of its “You Tweet, We Build” campaign that was launched in November last year, Digi promised to set up 4G LTE towers where users would vote for them via Twitter, of course, with the hashtag #DigiWeWant4G. Out of the top 10 locations that Digi set to build the “People’s Tower”, Setia Alam was the first location to receive Digi’s 4G LTE tower. Launched in December 2015, the People’s Tower in Setia Alam marked the beginning of Digi’s quest of listening to its customers and getting 4G LTE to the people where they need it most.
With the addition of the 4G LTE towers in Lunas, Batu Gajah, Jejawi, and Arau, Digi expands upon its previous claim of having 60% population coverage. The locations remaining on Digi’s “to-build” list include the following areas:
- Limbang, Sarawak
- Papar, Sabah
- Tenom, Sabah
- Bau, Sarawak
- Simpang Renggam, Johor
Other than that, Digi has also stated the company now has a total of 65% population coverage, bringing 4G LTE access to 131 major cities and towns. Digi’s 4G LTE-Advanced network has also achieved a 28.8% coverage footprint, giving the company an average of 50% population coverage in key market areas.
It’s great to see that Digi has continued with its commitment to bring 4G LTE to more people in Malaysia, especially in the more rural areas. Now that the People’s Tower has been completed in the northern region, it’s time for the company to enhance the 4G LTE experience in Johor, Sabah and Sarawak.
