Currently using a Samsung Galaxy S6 or S6 edge? Then good news: Samsung has announced that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for these two devices has been released.
With the introduction of Android 6.0 Marshmallow, the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will now be able to take advantage of the update’s new features; one of the most useful ones would be Now on Tap. Although Samsung did not clarify if the feature will work differently on the S6 and S6 edge, it should be identical to the Nexus 6P: a long press of the home button will bring up a slew of useful information based on what is on the screen.
Other than Now on Tap, the Galaxy S6 edge also receives its own unique features with this update. Previously, the edge panel was only 260 pixels wide; now, it can be widened to 550 pixels. Thanks to this, more content can be displayed on the edge panel. One of the changes this brings to the edge panel is the ability to add up to 10 apps – instead of only five – to the list of frequenty used apps; even an entire folder of apps can be placed there now.
For now, it seems like only the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge will be updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. According to Samsung, it will announce other devices that will receive the update sometime in the future, which should include the company’s other two flagship devices – the Galaxy Note 5 and S6 edge+.
While Samsung mentioned that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update has been rolled out to the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, it might not be immediately available to users in Malaysia. Rest assured, the update should be available for download via OTA in due time.
