Samsung is rumoured to be officially unveiling the long awaited Gear 360 VR camera some time this month. The Gear 360 camera will be able to capture 360-degree pictures and videos that may be fully immersed using the recently announced Samsung Gear VR. Interestingly, there is a also strong possibility of the camera being unveiled alongside the highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S7 on the 21st of February this year.
The Gear 360 camera will be equipped with its own battery, which eliminates the need for an external power source. Aside from that, the 360-degree camera will be paired with compatible devices via a Bluetooth connection. Unsurprisingly, the saucer-shaped Gear 360 VR camera is said to be based on Samsung’s previous prototype called Project Beyond.
Besides that, the Gear 360 comes with common camera features such as white balance, HDR, exposure control, Liveview as well as ISO settings. Interestingly, the VR camera comes with a neat feature which enables users to switch from utilising both lenses on the camera for a full 360-degree imagery or opting for a single lens option, which will trigger the camera to capture images and videos in 180-degrees instead.
The maximum resolution for the VR camera is said to be 3840 x 1920 when using dual lenses while the single lens option would result in a maximum resolution of 1920 x 1920.Unfortunately, there are no details regarding the date of availability and price of the Gear 360 VR camera yet. But, expect more information about Samsung’s new 360-degree camera around the same time as the unveiling of the Galaxy S7.
