Mi Malaysia is holding a special PayPal sale that sees discounts on three devices; provided the purchase is made using the online money transfer service. The sale will run from 2 – 15 February 2016, which is roughly around the Chinese New Year period. It’s not being called a CNY sale, but is effectively the same thing.
The Mi Note is going for RM1469 (less RM80), the Mi 4i for RM839 (less RM60), and the Red Mi 2 for RM369 (less RM30). To gain the benefit of the same, customers will have to check the ‘PayPal Special’ box before placing their ordrrs; after which they will have six hours to make a payment. It should be noted that all payments must be made using PayPal for the discount to kick in. Using any other payment option will result in the customer having to pay full price for the purchase.
The three smartphones on offer are models from last year, and are likely to be replaced over the next few months. Xiaomi is expected to announce its next flagship model, the Mi 5, later this month with simultaneous events in both Beijing and Barcelona.
Similarly, the Snapdragon 650 variant of the Redmi Note 2 has been spotted in SIRIM; which indicates that it should be launching in Malaysia very soon. There’s not indication of any pricing yet, and it looks like Xiaomi is not bringing the (presumably) cheaper Mediatek processor version into the country.
Admittedly, the discounts for the current promotion are not particularly attractive and fall short of other promotions run by Xiaomi. However, discounts are still discounts; and the time period gives customers time to buy new phones in time for the Chinese New Year celebrations.
