Samsung has introduced a new app-based ownership program called My Samsung. The app (also of the same name) allows users to easily register their device, contact and locate service centres, and receive exclusive perks.
The My Samsung platform is the company’s way of reaching out personally to owners of its devices, offering a one-stop avenue for warranty registration, find device info (such as serial number and IMEI), device notifications, tips, and even locate and contact service centres wherever you are.
Starting from the upcoming flagship smartphone (likely to be called the Galaxy S7), the My Samsung app will be pre-installed on all flagship Samsung smartphones. For other devices, the app only supports the following devices: Galaxy S4, S5 and S6, as well as the Galaxy Note 3, Note 4 and Note5.
The company adds that in the immediate future, more devices will be supported – including non-mobile devices such as smart TVs, virtually turning the My Samsung app into the one-stop solution it aims to be for customer service.
Upon launching the app, users will be asked to sign in to the My Samsung app via Facebook, Google or a Samsung account. They are then encouraged to register their new device, and upload a digital copy of the purchase receipt. This means that your proof of purchase remains conveniently stored online with Samsung should you need to send it for repairs.
In addition, the app also monitors the device and sends real-time notifications for scenarios when your battery is low, or when your device storage is running out. Interestingly, Samsung claims this will be one of the few Samsung pre-installed apps on future devices; this app will contain tips to users to try out other Samsung apps, such as Samsung Galaxy Life, Samsung Sportsflow, or Samsung KidsTime.
Finally, the app also offers perks exclusive to those who use it. Known as Ownership Privileges, this feature not only gives you an anniversary gift, but also things such as event invites for future Samsung products.
For those who’d like to sign up, the My Samsung app is now available for download at the Google Play Store, but is only limited to those in Malaysia, Singapore, New Zealand, Taiwan, and the Philippines.
