Xiaomi fans have long anticipated the arrival of the Xiaomi Mi 5 and we now have an official date to look forward to. The company had previously stated that the Mi 5 would be making an official appearance after the Chinese New Year, and it is now confirmed that the phone will be launched on 24 February.
The update on Xiaomi’s Mi 5 release date comes directly from the co-founder and senior vice president of Xiaomi, Li Wan Jiang. The Xiaomi Mi 5 launch event is set to be at the China National Convention Centre, and it will start at 2pm (Malaysian time) on the 24th of February.
Xiaomi has previously confirmed that the Mi 5 will indeed be running on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 processor. As for the rest of the hardware specs of the Mi 5, it is expected to feature a 5.2-inch screen, a 16MP rear camera, an 8MP front-facing camera, a 3,030mAh battery, and a fingerprint sensor embedded in the home button. That being said, GizmoChina has reported that there will supposedly be four variants of the Mi 5:
- Metallic design Mi 5 – 3GB RAM / 32GB internal storage – 2,199 Yuan (about RM1,430)
- Metallic design Mi 5 – 4GB RAM / 64GB internal storage – 2,599 Yuan (about RM1,690)

- 2.5D curved glass design Mi 5 – 2K display / 4GB RAM / 64GB internal storage – 3,099 Yuan (about RM2,010)
It won’t be long until Xiaomi officially takes the wrap off of the Mi 5. After all, it is just one reunion dinner away.
