AMD has recently provided more details regarding the Wraith stock CPU cooler which was first unveiled at CES 2016. Early impressions of the new stock CPU cooler by AMD were generally positive, due to the major improvements done to the Wraith CPU cooler to make it far better compared to AMD’s old stock CPU cooler.

According to AMD, the Wraith cooler has a noise output of 39dBA. The old stock CPU cooler by AMD had a noise output of 51dBA. According to sources, the logarithmic scale is used to measure sound output. This means that a 10 point increase in noise output is equivalent to a 10 fold increase. Knowing this, it’s safe to say that the Wraith cooler only outputs one tenth of the noise produced with the old AMD stock cooler. According to AMD, the fan included with the Wraith CPU cooler is not only quieter, but are also capable of 34% more airflow compared to its predecessor. Besides that, the surface area of the Wraith cooler has also been increased by 24%. To be exact, the Wraith cooler has a surface area of 179,730.10 mm² while the old AMD stock CPU cooler has 144,397.80 mm² .

According to AMD, the design of the Wraith CPU cooler was inspired by AMD’s Radeon Fury X and R9 295×2 graphics cards. The LED-lit logo (non-RGB) on the Wraith cooler was a feature that AMD added to emphasise its brand. In addition to that, the Wraith’s fan shroud has a black finish which further compliments the LED-lit logo.

Unfortunately, aside from the details of its new CPU cooler, AMD hasn’t mention which CPU will come with the Wraith. However, according to sources, the cooler was shipped along with the new FX 6330 processor in China recently. At CES 2016, the CPU cooler was demoed with AMD’s FX 8370 processor. Despite this, it seems likely that the Wraith cooler will be bundled along with AMD’s upcoming Zen-based CPUs.
