Garmin has updated its military grade tactix GPS smartwatch with the new tactix Bravo. As before, this particular watch takes the definition of “rugged design” to the extreme, and was inspired by the needs of special operations teams. In other words, it is probably overkill for us mere mortals.
The Garmin tactix Bravo has all the basic functionality of a smartband, and is capable of handling tasks like daily health tracking, workout recording, and can control Garmin’s action cameras. But that is not why you would buy one of these things. The real selling points is the “full multisport toolset to handle training, exploring, missions and more.”
To cater to the outdoorsman, the tactix Bravo is equipped with Garmin’s EXO-omnidirectional antenna with support for both GPS and GLONASS. It retains the 1,000 waypoint navigation from its predecessor, while gaining the ability to display two coordinates at the same time. The display is also equipped with a special mode to make it compatible with night vision goggles (or whatever the military is calling them these days); although that probably isn’t too useful for the average consumer.
People who tend to jump out of high places are also catered to with the Jumpmaster software, which is capable of tracking HAHO, HALO, and Static jumps. Less extreme users can also use Garmin Connect mobile app to access data on 40,000 golf courses or use the SUP/rowing mode to measure their efficiency at rowing boats.
The tactix Bravo can get up to 50 hours of battery life in UltraTrac mode, 20 hours in GPS training mode, and up to three weeks in smartwatch mode. Garmin is making tactix bravo available in the first quarter of 2016 for $699.99 (about RM3070).
