While Lenovo may not be known for high-end gaming laptops, the new ideapad Y900 could change things. Unveiled at CES 2016, the Y900 is a 17.3-inch gaming powerhouse with some serious hardware underneath its hood; it also features a “mechanical keyboard,” which is pretty interesting.
Although Lenovo mentioned that the ideapad Y900 has a mechanical keyboard (which seems to feature RGB lighting as well), it’s not exactly like the MSI GT80 Titan‘s one. In fact, it looks just like a regular laptop keyboard, although the keys appear to have more than the usual amount of travel. It will be interesting to see just how the keyboard will feel like to type on – and whether or not it has any characteristic of a proper mechanical keyboard.
In terms of specification, the Y900 is truly a gaming machine; a high-end one, at that. It has an overclockable sixth generation Intel Core i7 quad-core processor paired with up to a whopping 64GB of DDR4 RAM, a 17.3-inch 1080p IPS display, an Nvidia GeForce GTX 980M graphics card, up to 512GB of PCIe SSD or 1TB HDD storage, and interestingly, a “Turbo” button which will supposedly boost the performance of the laptop.
The Lenovo ideapad Y900 is set to be available from June 2016 onwards starting from US$2,000, which is about RM8,670. Needless to say, this is not an affordable gaming laptop, but it sure is powerful. Local availability of the Y900 has not been revealed yet at the time of this writing.
