Acer has revealed the Iconia One 8, which is a tablet that is more catered to families, young children, or for new adopters of Android. Being a family-friendly tablet, it comes shipped with the “Kids Centre” app, which features a simplified child-friendly user interface.
Not to be confused with the current Iconia One 8 tablet (B1-810), this Iconia One 8 tablet for families have the model number B1-850. It has a few features where parents can filter contents on the tablet to make sure things like videos, games, books, and even websites are appropriate for their children. The tablet also has parental control features – blocking access to unapproved content, monitoring content for children, and even setting a daily time limit for their kids to use the tablet.
Besides that, there are also other features Acer has included in the Iconia One 8. First, we have the EZ WakeUp feature, where users can load a preset app of their choice with just a touch and a double tap. EZ Snap, on the other hand, allows users to take a screenshot with a three-finger pinch, while the System Doctor feature automatically manages the device’s memory, storage, as well as apps to optimise the tablet’s functionality.
In terms of specifications, the Acer Iconia One 8 features an 8-inch 720p IPS display and runs on an unspecified quad-core MediaTek processor paired with 1GB of RAM. In terms of storage, there’s 16GB of memory onboard with support for expansion via a microSD card slot.
The Acer Iconia One 8 tablet will be available in black, white, and blue colour options. The company will first launch the Iconia One 8 tablet in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) for €129 (about RM605), while a February launch in the US will set the tablet’s price at USD$99.99 (approximately RM435).
