LG has not been particularly active in Malaysia. Even though it has released the G5, Stylus 2 Plus and X Power on our shores this year, it remained to be seen if the LG V20 – arguably one of LG’s most interesting smartphones to date – will be brought into Malaysia too. Well, until now, that is: the V20 has been registered with SIRIM, Malaysia’s certification body.
While going through SIRIM’s database, we notice that the LG V20 was registered under Watta Energy (M) Sdn Bhd with the model number “V20 (LG-H990ds).” Turns out, Watta Energy is actually the Malaysian distributor of LG phones in Malaysia; the distributorship rights lasts for a one-year period from 1 July 2016.
Looking at LG devices registered with SIRIM under Watta Energy, most of them are already on sale here, including the aforementioned G5, Stylus 2 Plus and X Power. The LG K8, on the other hand, hasn’t been released yet – this also includes the LG V20.
Judging by the local availability of these LG devices, it’s highly likely that the LG V20 and K8 will be officially launched in Malaysia in the near future. The V20 is especially interesting, considering the fact that its predecessor – the V10 – never made it here.
Regardless, this is merely an educated guess at this point in time. Hopefully, both the LG V20 and K8 will be officially available in Malaysia soon – it’ll certainly be interesting to see how well the V20 will do as another flagship offering in our market.
