Samsung Malaysia has begun taking steps to ensure those who are still hanging on to their Galaxy Note 7 devices to seriously consider returning them. From today, Note 7 owners will begin seeing their maximum charge limited to 30%.
Samsung Malaysia sent a push notification to owners of Samsung devices informing users of this update. Oddly enough, it wasn’t just sent to owners of the Note 7 – we’ve seen two units of the Galaxy S7 edge with this notification. Tapping on the notification opens up the Galaxy Note 7 return FAQ page on Samsung Malaysia’s website.
With this update to the device, the Note 7 is practically unusable even if the move is not as drastic as the one which will affect users in the US: all Galaxy Note 7 devices in the US will receive a software update which will prevent them from charging and “eliminating their ability to work as mobile devices”.
As it stands, all Galaxy Note 7 devices are still eligible for return for a full refund, or an exchange to the Galaxy S7 edge. Current Galaxy Note 7 users should call Samsung Malaysia’s careline at 1-800-88-7799 for assistance.
