The Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 is one of the Chinese company’s most luxurious smartphones to date, and it is set to be launched right here in Malaysia on the 22 of December next week. Not surprisingly, this sleek-looking smartphone will cost a pretty penny.
As an earlier leak suggested, the Porsche Design Mate 9 will indeed go for a whopping RM6,999 in Malaysia. For that kind of money, this variant of the Mate 9 is packing a 5.5-inch dual-curved 1440p AMOLED display, a HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor paired with 6GB of RAM, a huge 256GB of non-expandable storage, as well as a 4,000mAh battery.
Unlike other Huawei smartphones – which usually have rear fingerprint sensors – the Porsche Design Mate 9 has its fingerprint sensor integrated into the physical home button on the front of the device. Of course, this variant of the Mate 9 also has the second generation Leica-certified dual-camera system, which consists of a 20MP monochrome sensor and a 12MP RGB shooter – an 8MP camera is found on the front.
According to Huawei Malaysia, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 will be available in Malaysia – in limited quantities – on 22 December 2016 from Huawei authorised dealers. Pre-orders of the device will also be open tomorrow, but it will “only be limited to five units on both 11street and Vmall.my.”
Update: it appears the Huawei Mate 9 Pro is set to arrive in Malaysia as well. Huawei Malaysia is bringing in the 128GB variant with 6GB of RAM for RM3,399 at the moment; it’ll be available for pre-order tomorrow much like the Porsche Design model. It remains to be seen if the Mate 9 Pro will also be available on 22 December, not to mention if the more affordable 64GB model will be launched here as well.
Update (15/12/16): Both the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 9 and Mate 9 Pro are now sold out on Vmall.my. However, the former seems to be still in stock on 11street.
