[Update: 6:09pm – 14/12/2016] It seems that U Mobile has taken down all three videos it posted on its social media platform yesterday. Fortunately, we’ve found some copies of the videos online. You can find them below.
U Mobile has always been rather…offbeat with its brand presence and identity, making them appeal to the younger generation of consumers. But this latest move surely takes its playful nature to the next level.
As part of “spreading the joy of Christmas”, U Mobile has released three videos on its Facebook page – each dedicated to its rivals: Maxis, Celcom, and Digi. Each video calls the individual telco out on their weaknesses, while (naturally) talking up the advantages U Mobile has over that telco.
From recent missteps, “old school territories”, and “losing the video war”, nothing was too much for U Mobile. While playful in nature, the videos will naturally ruffle some feathers over at Maxis, Celcom, and Digi – few companies troll others by name in this side of the world, so it’d be interesting to see how the other telcos respond.
On the other hand, the videos are also a sign of U Mobile’s increasing confidence despite generally being known as the fourth largest telco in Malaysia. With some generous data packages and innovative features, U Mobile has admittedly been pushing the competition to work harder.
This isn’t the first time companies have poked fun at each other on social media. On April Fools this year, Time took matters a step too far with their own Facebook post “congratulating” TM on the new Unifi Pro 100Mbps plan.
