In a media briefing last week, Webe has shared its plan to improve its network in 2017 using carrier aggregation which will allow the telco to deliver download speed of up to 300Mbps. However, there are several things that they didn’t mentioned during the briefing that caught our attention.
One of them is Voice over LTE (VoLTE) capability on Webe’s network. which appeared to be active on several Huawei P9 that were displayed at the briefing area. Inside P9’s call settings, this particular function is known as Virtual HD Call and the HD indicator is shown on the phone’s status bar as well as its dialer (shown below) whenever the feature is in operation.
Apart for that, the telco is also testing out a solution to improve its network coverage inside shopping malls. In fact, it is the very solution that apparently powered all the devices that were on display during the media briefing session with the exception of the 3CC CA prototype equipment.
In general, it is the same LampSite solution that Huawei has provided for Maxis recently which is why the box might looked rather familiar to some. Based on our brief speed test, the throughput is not as fast as Maxis implementation in Suria KLCC but it is still quite good nevertheless since we managed to achieved download speed of more than 100Mbps.
At this moment, Webe has yet to make any official announcement regarding any of these tests. Just like its network improvement plan though, we believe it is only a matter of time before customers are able to experience these capabilities themselves.
