(UPDATE: TM has since removed the FAQ but we managed to save it before that happened. Scroll down to see the original document.)
Aside from these revelations, the FAQ document that TM has published in the December 2016 promo website for UniFi Advance 30Mbps and 50Mbps plans has also revealed the pricing for UniFi plans in 2017. According to the document, there will be no changes to the pricing of both plans which are listed at RM 199 and RM 249 respectively although the monthly fee for the UniFi Pro 100Mbps plan will be rectified.
Specifically, new customers that subscribe UniFi 100Mbps plan will be charged RM 299 per month. As a comparison, the current monthly fee for the plan starts at RM 329 per month.
Given how current UniFi 50Mbps subscribers will be migrated to UniFi 100Mbps next year at the price of their 50Mbps subscription, this change is rather expected. However, it was not mentioned in the FAQ document whether TM will convert the current monthly fee for existing 100Mbps subscribers to 2017’s pricing or otherwise.
Even if TM does convert their monthly fee, they will still be paying significantly more than those 50Mbps customers that will be enjoying the same 100Mbps speed in 2017 with 2016’s pricing. Let’s not forget, these 100Mbps subscribers also have nothing to gain from TM’s broadband improvement exercise in 2017 as well since it is already the most premium UniFi plan that TM able to offer at the time being.
Hence, it is rather unfortunate for me to say that UniFi 100Mbps subscribers might felt rather burned unless TM have something that it has yet to reveal for these customers. Meanwhile, it seems that right now might be a good time to subscribe for the UniFi 50Mbps plan through its December 2016 promo.
That being said, customers that register their UniFi account under this promo will only receive their 100Mbps (or 50Mbps if they choose to sign up for 30Mbps plan) upgrade starting from April 2017 instead of January 2017 as pointed by the promo’s TnC document. Oh well.
