BlackBerry may not be in the business of manufacturing smartphones anymore, but as the company promised some time back, there’ still one last BlackBerry smartphone that’s yet to be unveiled. Codenamed Mercury, leaked images of the device have started surfacing online, and as expected, the iconic QWERTY keyboard is featured on the Mercury.
These alleged images of the Mercury were posted on Weibo, one of China’s largest social networking sites. Looking at these images, they do look very convincing. The design of the smartphone itself, on the other hand, looks somewhat dated. The Mercury does look like a rather premium smartphone though, with what seems like a metal chassis.
In terms of specifications, the Mercury is rumoured to be packing a 4.5-inch display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, a Qualcomm processor clocked at 2.0GHz with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, as well as 18MP rear and 8MP front-facing shooters. The Mercury should run on Android out of the box too, although it still remains to be seen if it will ship with Nougat or Marshmallow.
As is the case with leaked materials, nothing is set in stone until BlackBerry itself confirm that this is in fact the Mercury. Rest assured, we will keep a close eye on any official information on BlackBerry’s last hurrah.
