Riding on the immense success of its latest shooter, Battlefield 1, Electronic Arts have made an announcement that may or may not please its fans. According to the company, the Battlefield franchise will not be renewed with a new game in 2017. The company will instead be focusing on a new Star Wars Battlefront game next year.
The announcement was made by EA’s chief finance officer, Blake Jorgensen, during the Nasdaq 25th Investor Program. “We won’t have another Battlefield for a couple of years” said the EA Exec, which could possibly mean that Battlefield die-hard fans would have to wait quite a while before getting a game from the franchise.
The decision to put aside Battlefield for “a couple of years” seem to be the right decision by the company, especially since Battlefield 1 is doing pretty well currently. The company’s last two games that were released in consecutive years – Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline – didn’t fair so well.
That aside, EA did mention that the next Star Wars Battlefront game will be more exiting and much bigger. Jorgensen said that while the Battlefront reboot was a success, fans still wanted more out of the shooter – and the next game will hopefully address this issue. Speaking of which, EA has not revealed a specific release date for the new Battlefront game, but did mention that it’ll be out sometime in 2017 – obviously.
