Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be hitting theaters next month, and to celebrate the release of the upcoming movie, SoftBank – one of Japan’s major mobile carriers – will be launching a pair of Star Wars smartphones. Naturally, these phones signify the two sides of the Force: The dark and light sides.
These Star Wars-themed smartphones are made by Sharp, and aside from the different aesthetics, both devices share the same specifications. These include a 5.3-inch 1080p IGZO display, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor paired with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, as well as a 3,000mAh battery. Oddly enough, these two smartphones also feature a TV tuner; they also have 22.6MP rear cameras and 5MP front-facing shooters.
Interestingly, both variants of the device are also IPX5/IPX8 rated; this means they can be submerged up to 1.5m underwater for 30 minutes. Of course, both devices also have live wallpapers, user interface, as well as ringtones – and even emoji – inspired by Star Wars. There are five metal figurines – from Rogue One – bundled with these devices too.
Both of these Star Wars-inspired phones are set to launch in Japan on 2 December 2016. If you’re keen to get one, we imagine you can only do so in Japan. Alternatively, we can always hope for parallel importers to bring these Star Wars phones into Malaysia.
