A couple of days ago, data miners discovered that Ditto’s signature move, Transform, is in the latest Pokemon Go update. Usually, this signify that Ditto is available for capture in the game now; as it turns out, this is certainly the case. However, capturing the long-awaited Pokemon isn’t exactly easy.
True to its nature, Ditto only appears in the wild disguised as another Pokemon. Many are reporting that Ditto appears as Pidgey, Rattata, Spearow, Zubat, and even Magikarp. So far, many are convinced that Ditto only disguises itself as common Pokemons, which isn’t exactly a bad thing.
While this means that Ditto should theoretically spawn more often in the game than say, a Charmander, you won’t exactly know you’re trying to catch a Ditto until you actually have it in your Poke Ball. Once you’ve caught it, Ditto will reveal itself in a rather cool looking animation.
In gym battles, a Ditto will copy the appearance, moveset and type of the first Pokemon it sees; it will remain as that particular Pokemon until the end of the gym battle, which is pretty neat. Of course, if it sees another Ditto, nothing will change.
Now, excuse us while we dust off our Pokemon Go account. We can’t help but to wonder if the Pidgey that ran away from us just then was in fact a Ditto..
