The Steam Autumn Sale has kicked off, and Valve has introduced something entirely new this time. It doesn’t have anything to do with discounts; rather, Steam has introduced its first ever Steam Awards.
Unlike traditional gaming awards, Steam doesn’t have categories like ‘game of the year’ or ‘best graphics’. Instead, it introduces broader awards like the “I’m Not Crying, There’s Something In My Eye” Award and the “Villain Most In Need Of A Hug” Award. Nominating games for each category is being left to Steam users; and just about any title is fair game.
It looks like every game with a live Steam page qualifies for the awards, even if they are still in Early Access. This represents an extremely unusual situation where games that are not technically finished can still receive votes. Winners of the awards will be announced at some point in December; after the Autumn Sale ends.
As for the Autumn Sale, there’s the usual spread of discounts that make it very easy for people to end up with a library full of unplayed games. Nothing really stands out this time around; but then again, most of us have already bought every game we could ever want.
