Have an iPhone 6s that is unexpectedly shutting down? You can now replace the battery on your affected device for free at an Apple Authorised Service Provider. However, before you start packing up your iPhone 6s for a battery replacement, Apple says that the problem only affects a very small number of iPhone 6s devices, and you will need to check if your device is eligible for a free battery replacement.
According to Apple, the battery problem only affects devices within a limited serial number range that were manufactured between September and October 2015. If your iPhone 6s is unexpectedly shutting down, you will need to visit an Apple Authorised Service Provider and have your device’s serial number checked to see if it is eligible for this replacement program.

If eligible, you will need to prepare your iPhone 6s before you send it in for a battery replacement. Just back up your data to iTunes or iCloud, turn off Find my iPhone, and erase data and settings.
As always, your iPhone must be in working order. If there are other damages such as a cracked screen which impairs the replacement of the battery, that issue must be resolved first. There may be a cost associated with the repair. This free battery replacement program for selected iPhone 6s devices is not available for wireless carrier partners. Apple may restrict or limit repair to the original country of purchase.
