Google has come up with a fun little way of teaching its AI system to recognise drawings; and maybe waste a few hours of our time in the process. Quick, Draw! is a simple game where the player is asked to draw something, after which Google’s AI will attempt to guess what it is.
The goal is to teach computers ways to recognise doodles and poorly drawn images, which should increase the future accuracy of Google’s products. On the other hand, people love games that involve drawing and guessing. In this case, the guessing is done by a computer.
Quick, Draw! is only one of several AI experiments by Google, all of which are designed to use machine learning to accomplish certain tasks. These experiments are centered around teaching the AI to perceive the world in the same way that humans do, which will allow it to interact as if it was a person.
On the other hand, it’s a fun little game to waste a lunch break on. And maybe lose a couple of hours of productivity.
