Hearthstone is bringing one of its biggest tournaments to KL. The Malaysian Major represents the first stop of the 2017 winter season for Blizzard’s popular digital card game, and is also the first time that it will be held in this country.
The Hearthstone Malaysian Major is open to global participation, and Blizzard is making it easier for those traveling to join the tournament. The organiser has a limited set number of available lodgings for those flying in from around the world. There’s no telling how much space is available, but the fact that there is a free bed for travelers is a very nice gesture.
A second departure from how regular eSports tournaments are held is the fact that the Hearthstone Malaysian Major will be split across two venues. The first few rounds (RO256 to RO16) of grinders will take place a the Mineski Esports Arena; while the top cut will be played at The Woods @ Seputeh.
The tournament itself will be played under the Double Elimination format, and each round will be run as a best-of-five Conquest match with bans. Players will have to have a valid Americas server account for playing their matches.
The prize pool for the Hearthstone Malaysian Major isn’t going to be as impressive as those found in other games like Dota 2 or League of Legends. There’s only a $5,000 pool to be played for, although the top eight players will also receive Razer products. More importantly, there are Hearthstone Championship Tour Points to be won; which will be necessary for making it to the world championship.
There’s more information on the Hearthstone Facebook page for those looking to give it a go. The Hearthstone Malaysian Major will take place from 9 – 11 December 2016
